RAGNAROCK – THE MUSEUM FOR POP, ROCK AND YOUTH CULTURE

Since the 1950’s, the sound of time has been dominated by rock and pop music. Today, the rock music and its many subgenres is being considered as one of the strongest cultural movements in the 20th century.

RAGNAROCK is Denmark’s new national contemporary museum and cultural greenhouse in Roskilde. Centered around the music, the museum tells the story about the youth culture and the musical eras from the 1950’s and up until today. Through the years, the music has been the speaker of the youth and has created the foundation for various political views, technologies, linguistic trends, media and fashion. The museum is situated in a brand new building, designed by Dutch architects MVRDV and Danish COBE, with iconic golden rivets, that gleam in the sun, and with a long red carpet, that leads all the way up to the entrance. The museum is both a museum and a cultural greenhouse with exhibition facilities, music scenes, archive and teaching/research facilities. RAGNAROCK is a living contemporary museum with an ambitious event programme, a café, an exciting museum shop and various special exhibitions.
